In a recent development, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has strongly advised Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to refrain from interfering in the internal matters of Manipur. Singh’s remarks came in response to comments made by Sangma regarding the political situation in the northeastern state.
The ongoing tensions between the two leaders stem from Sangma’s public statements on the political situation in Manipur, which Singh believes cross the line into matters best addressed by the state government. Singh emphasized that every state has its own sovereignty, and external parties should respect that. He further added that interference in internal affairs can often lead to unnecessary complications and misunderstandings.
Sangma, a prominent leader in the northeast region, had previously commented on the ongoing unrest and political developments in Manipur. While his remarks were made out of concern for the region’s stability, Singh feels that it is important for such issues to be handled within the state and not be influenced by external opinions.
The political climate in Manipur has been tense, with several political and social issues affecting the state. These ongoing discussions have led to heightened scrutiny and debates about governance, policies, and the future of the region. Singh’s comments underscore the importance of maintaining internal autonomy and ensuring that state matters are resolved locally without external interference.
Both states share a history of political and social interactions, but Singh’s response marks a clear boundary regarding the scope of involvement from neighboring states. Singh’s call for respect and non-interference aims to preserve Manipur’s governance structure while maintaining cordial relationships with other northeastern states.
