Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has urged political leaders across party lines to maintain a non-partisan stance while discussing Operation Sindoor, a recent initiative involving India's armed forces. In her statement, Mayawati emphasized the need for unity and maturity in public discourse, particularly on matters concerning national security and the armed forces.
Operation Sindoor, which has been prominently featured in national news, involved a critical and sensitive mission carried out by Indian defence personnel. While the details of the operation remain classified or limited to public knowledge, it has drawn considerable attention and commentary from political parties and commentators alike.
Mayawati cautioned against using national security operations as tools for political point-scoring. “Operations like Sindoor represent the dedication, bravery, and sacrifice of our armed forces. It is not appropriate to view or debate such efforts through the lens of partisan politics,” she said.
In a post shared on social media and later reinforced during a media briefing, the BSP leader stated that issues relating to national defence must be treated with seriousness and dignity. She added that all political parties should display responsibility in their remarks and avoid speculative or divisive statements that could harm public trust or morale.
Mayawati also underlined the importance of acknowledging the professionalism of the armed forces and the risk they undertake to protect the country. “Our focus should be on ensuring that the forces receive the support they need and that their work is respected, not politicized,” she said.
Her comments come at a time when several political leaders have expressed differing views on the operation, with some parties questioning the transparency and intent behind its execution. These statements have sparked debates and responses from the ruling party, resulting in a highly politicized environment.
Political analysts believe that Mayawati’s statement is a call for restraint and responsible political behavior. As a senior national leader who has largely stayed away from aggressive rhetoric on defence matters, her balanced stance is seen as a reminder that national interest must remain above electoral or ideological considerations.
She also appealed to the media to report such issues with caution and to avoid sensationalism. “The media plays a powerful role in shaping public perception. Reporting on sensitive matters like military operations must be grounded in facts and guided by public responsibility,” she added.
Mayawati concluded by reiterating her party’s full support for the armed forces and called for a constructive national dialogue that prioritizes integrity, truth, and unity. “Let us stand together as a country when it comes to our security forces and refrain from turning their bravery into a subject of political rivalry,” she said.
As Operation Sindoor continues to be discussed in political and public domains, Mayawati’s statement serves as a timely reminder of the importance of rising above partisanship in matters that affect national unity and security.
