Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has called for cross-party cooperation in the assembly to ensure the passage of key bills aimed at addressing the region’s governance and development challenges. She urged lawmakers from all parties to put political differences aside and work collectively for the welfare of the people.
Speaking at a press conference, Mufti highlighted that several crucial legislative proposals are set to be discussed in the assembly. These include measures related to employment generation, economic revival, and the restoration of democratic and constitutional rights in Jammu and Kashmir. She asserted that the people of J&K deserve effective governance and meaningful reforms, which can only be achieved through bipartisan collaboration.
Mufti also raised concerns about the current political landscape, stating that divisive politics should not overshadow the region’s need for stability and development. "The people of Jammu and Kashmir have endured immense hardships. It is time to focus on policies that uplift them rather than engaging in political one-upmanship," she said.
Her call for unity comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir continues to face multiple challenges, including economic slowdown, security concerns, and administrative restructuring. Mufti reiterated that if all parties work together, they can push for policies that prioritize employment, infrastructure, and social welfare.
The PDP leader also underscored the importance of restoring the special status of J&K and ensuring the protection of its unique identity. She urged legislators to back initiatives that strengthen democracy in the region and improve the quality of life for its residents.
As the J&K assembly session progresses, all eyes will be on how political parties respond to Mehbooba Mufti’s appeal and whether collective action can lead to impactful legislative changes in the Union Territory.
