Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has strongly condemned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ remark, demanding an immediate apology. Yadav stated that the Kumbh Mela is a deeply revered spiritual gathering for millions of Hindus, and Banerjee’s comments were disrespectful and insensitive to religious sentiments.
Addressing the media, Yadav asserted that Kumbh Mela represents faith, tradition, and cultural heritage, and such remarks from a senior political leader were unacceptable. He accused Banerjee of attempting to politicize religious matters and questioned her intent behind the statement. According to Yadav, leaders must respect the emotions of devotees instead of making statements that can provoke controversy.
The ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ remark, reportedly made by Banerjee while addressing a public event, has triggered a political storm, with BJP leaders across various states condemning her words. Many BJP leaders have accused the TMC supremo of repeatedly disrespecting Hindu traditions and using religious issues for political gains. Yadav further stated that the Madhya Pradesh government takes immense pride in hosting the Kumbh Mela, ensuring the safety and well-being of devotees.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has come out in defense of Banerjee, arguing that her remarks were taken out of context. Party spokespersons claimed that Banerjee was highlighting concerns over mismanagement at large gatherings and did not intend to insult the Kumbh Mela. However, the controversy has already gained momentum, with BJP leaders and Hindu organizations demanding a public apology.
As the political debate intensifies, the issue is likely to remain in focus in the coming days, especially with elections approaching. The remarks have once again underscored the sensitivity surrounding religious and cultural issues in India’s political discourse.
