Bharatiya Janata Party president Jagat Prakash Nadda has recently taken a strong stance against the Congress party, accusing it of attempting to erase Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from India’s historical narrative. Speaking at a public rally, Nadda emphasised that Patel, popularly known as the Iron Man of India, played a critical role in the political integration of India post-Independence, yet his contributions were often overshadowed in mainstream political discourse by the Congress leadership.

Nadda highlighted that Congress deliberately promoted selective historical narratives that downplayed Patel’s achievements while focusing disproportionately on Jawaharlal Nehru. According to him, this approach was aimed at undermining Patel’s legacy and misrepresenting his role in shaping modern India. Nadda stressed that the nation owes much of its post-Independence unity to Patel, particularly his leadership in integrating over 500 princely states into the Indian Union.

In addition to Patel’s legacy, Nadda sharply criticised Nehru’s decision to grant Article 370 to Jammu and Kashmir, which provided the state with special autonomous status. Nadda argued that this article created barriers to national unity and delayed the complete integration of the state with the rest of India. He suggested that Article 370 was a historic mistake that hindered economic growth and political stability in the region.

The BJP president also pointed out that the party’s recent efforts in revoking Article 370 were a step towards correcting decades-long oversights and fulfilling Patel’s vision of a unified India. He stated that the BJP government’s policies were aimed at strengthening national integrity while addressing issues that had been left unresolved by previous governments.

Nadda’s remarks come in the backdrop of rising political discourse around historical figures and their contributions to India’s nation-building. He urged citizens, especially young voters, to understand the real history of India’s independence movement and appreciate the role of leaders like Sardar Patel, whose decisive actions ensured the consolidation of the Indian Republic.

The BJP leader also underlined the party’s achievements in governance and national security as proof of its commitment to Patel’s vision of a strong, united, and self-reliant India. He encouraged people to participate actively in democratic processes, recognising the importance of informed voting and historical awareness.

Political analysts note that Nadda’s statements are part of the BJP’s broader strategy to highlight its ideological alignment with Patel’s principles and contrast it with the Congress’s historical governance decisions. By focusing on Patel and Article 370, the BJP aims to appeal to voters concerned with national integration, unity, and governance efficiency.

In conclusion, Jagat Prakash Nadda’s comments reiterate the BJP’s position that Congress attempted to diminish Sardar Patel’s historical contributions while highlighting Nehru’s controversial decisions regarding Jammu and Kashmir. By referencing Patel’s legacy and the revocation of Article 370, Nadda emphasised the party’s commitment to national unity and the correction of historical oversights.
