He further stated that his focus remains on strengthening the party at the grassroots level and preparing for the upcoming elections in coordination with the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.

Jayant Patil, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), has strongly refuted media reports suggesting that he may be considering a political defection. Addressing the issue during a press interaction, Patil described the rumours as entirely baseless and politically motivated. He affirmed his continued loyalty to the NCP (SP) and its leadership under Sharad Pawar.

Patil, who currently serves as the Maharashtra unit president of NCP (SP), said there is no question of him joining any other political party. He stressed that the speculation being circulated through sections of the media and on social media platforms was aimed at causing confusion among party workers and the general public. According to him, such reports surface frequently during times of political realignment and are intended to damage the image of opposition leaders.

He further stated that his focus remains on strengthening the party at the grassroots level and preparing for the upcoming elections in coordination with the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. Patil also urged party workers not to be misled by false narratives and to stay committed to the party’s objectives.

The clarification comes at a time when Maharashtra’s political scene is witnessing heightened activity, particularly after the split in the NCP, with one faction led by Sharad Pawar and the other by Ajit Pawar, who joined the NDA-led state government. Since the split, several leaders have either switched sides or have been the subject of defection rumours, making political speculation rampant in the state.

Jayant Patil has been a key figure in the Sharad Pawar faction and has played a central role in party organization and electoral strategy. His political experience and standing in the state have made him a prominent name, and any suggestion of defection has drawn media and public interest.

Responding to the speculation, NCP (SP) leaders have also rallied behind Patil, stating that his commitment to the party has never been in doubt. They accused rival political forces of spreading false stories to weaken the morale of party workers and to gain an advantage in the pre-election environment.

Political analysts believe that as elections approach, such rumours are likely to increase as parties attempt to destabilize their opponents through narratives about defections and realignments. However, many also caution that such reports should be verified before being taken at face value, especially when denied publicly by those involved.

Jayant Patil’s response has helped clarify his position and send a message of unity within the Sharad Pawar-led NCP faction. He concluded his statement by reaffirming his full support for Sharad Pawar’s leadership and the party’s long-term political mission.
