The Election Commission of India (ECI) reported that as of 11 am today, no political party had submitted any claims or objections related to the ongoing revision of electoral rolls. The statement came during the Commission’s regular briefing on the status of the electoral roll verification process, which is part of its continuous effort to ensure that the voter lists are accurate, updated, and inclusive ahead of upcoming elections.
The electoral roll revision is a key exercise undertaken by the ECI across all states and union territories. This process allows political parties, citizen groups, and individuals to verify their details, add new eligible voters, remove names of deceased or ineligible persons, and correct any errors. It is a crucial step in upholding the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.
According to the ECI, the claims and objections phase is open for a fixed period, during which stakeholders are encouraged to review the preliminary electoral rolls and submit feedback. This input can be provided in writing through official channels or digitally via the ECI’s online portals.
Despite the absence of submissions from political parties till this morning, the Commission emphasised that there is still time left for them to take part in the process. ECI officials highlighted that political parties often review the lists internally before submitting consolidated claims or objections, which might explain the delay in responses.
The ECI also urged political parties to act promptly, stating that their role in maintaining clean and accurate voter rolls is vital for democratic integrity. By actively participating in the process, parties can help ensure that eligible citizens are not deprived of their right to vote and that ineligible entries are removed to prevent misuse.
In addition to political parties, the Commission has called on civil society organisations, advocacy groups, and individual citizens to check their entries on the voter list. With advancements in technology, the ECI now provides multiple ways for voters to verify and update their details, including through mobile apps, SMS services, and official websites.
Officials reiterated that the accuracy of the electoral rolls forms the foundation of free and fair elections. Any discrepancies, if left unaddressed, could potentially lead to disputes, disenfranchisement, or credibility issues during polling. Therefore, public participation in the process is considered not only a civic responsibility but also a safeguard for the democratic process.
The ECI has further assured that all claims and objections submitted will be examined thoroughly, with decisions made in accordance with the law and published transparently. Once the final electoral rolls are prepared, they will be made available to the public ahead of the election schedule.
The Commission concluded its update by reminding all stakeholders that the window for submitting claims and objections is still open, and timely action will help maintain the integrity and inclusiveness of the country’s democratic framework.
