Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has taken a sharp jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that it failed to capitalize on the opportunity to reclaim lost territories during the 1999 Kargil War. Addressing a public gathering, Abdullah remarked that if the BJP is truly committed to safeguarding India's territorial integrity, it should now focus on taking back areas of Jammu and Kashmir currently under Pakistan and China's control.

His statement comes at a time when border tensions between India and its neighboring countries remain a crucial geopolitical concern. The former CM's remarks have sparked a strong reaction from the BJP, with party leaders defending their government’s national security policies and military strategies. They argue that India has consistently taken a firm stance on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the territories occupied by China, including Aksai Chin.

The Kargil War of 1999 saw Indian forces successfully reclaiming strategic positions infiltrated by Pakistan-backed militants and troops. However, Abdullah contended that had the BJP-led government at the time taken stronger military action, parts of PoK and other disputed territories could have been brought back under Indian control.

His comments have further fueled the political discourse surrounding Jammu and Kashmir, national security, and India's foreign policy. While opposition parties have echoed concerns about the handling of territorial disputes, BJP leaders have emphasized the government's ongoing diplomatic and military efforts to safeguard national borders.

This latest exchange highlights the continuing political friction over India's approach to its disputed territories and the broader security strategy in the region. With rising tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Abdullah’s remarks add to the ongoing national debate on how India should address its border challenges.
