Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has responded to criticism over his decision to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for their contributions to the Union Territory. Speaking to the media, Abdullah questioned why acknowledging government efforts should be viewed negatively.

He stated that if the central leadership has taken steps that benefit Jammu and Kashmir, there is nothing wrong in expressing gratitude. Abdullah clarified that appreciating positive initiatives does not mean endorsing any political ideology or aligning with a particular party.

The National Conference leader further emphasized that political differences should not prevent leaders from recognizing constructive work. He added that his party remains committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of the people of J&K, regardless of which government implements beneficial policies.

Abdullah’s remarks come amid criticism from political opponents who accused him of softening his stance towards the central government. However, he maintained that politics should not overshadow developmental efforts and that leaders must prioritize the welfare of the people over partisan interests.

His statement has sparked a debate on political discourse in Jammu and Kashmir, with some supporting his view that good governance should be acknowledged, while others see it as a shift in his political positioning.

He added that his party remains committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of the people of J&K, regardless of which government implements beneficial policies.
