All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has launched a strong criticism of the central government, blaming an intelligence failure for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The attack, which claimed several lives and injured others, has led to nationwide grief and rising political tension.
Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad, Owaisi expressed deep concern over the continuing security threats in Jammu & Kashmir and alleged that the Modi government had failed to prevent the attack despite multiple warnings. “If our intelligence agencies knew of the threat, why was there no preventive action? And if they didn’t know, then it’s an even bigger concern,” Owaisi said.
He accused the Union government of focusing more on public relations than national security, pointing out that intelligence lapses have occurred repeatedly over the past few years. “This is not the first such attack. Every time it happens, promises are made, but nothing changes on the ground,” he added.
The Pahalgam attack has shaken the nation, with security forces placed on high alert in the Valley. Sources from within the security establishment admitted that initial assessments suggest a failure in timely intelligence inputs or response mechanisms. Owaisi’s comments have intensified the ongoing political debate around internal security and the administration’s handling of Jammu & Kashmir.
Opposition parties have also raised the issue in Parliament, demanding a detailed briefing from the Ministry of Home Affairs. The government, meanwhile, has maintained that a high-level investigation is underway and that those responsible will be brought to justice.
Owaisi further demanded a comprehensive review of the country’s intelligence infrastructure and a bipartisan approach to improving national security. “This should not be about political scoring. It’s about lives, about Indian citizens. We need reforms, we need accountability,” he said.
The Home Ministry has not officially responded to Owaisi’s statements, but government sources indicated that counter-terror efforts are being intensified in Kashmir, with fresh deployments and surveillance measures being implemented post-attack.
While political voices continue to clash over responsibility and preparedness, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of civilians and preventing further incidents. Families of the victims, meanwhile, await justice and reassurance from those in power.
