He demanded that the government establish well-equipped relief camps, deploy medical teams, and ensure adequate supply of essential goods to the displaced.

Tariq Hamid Karra, the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation in the border district of Poonch due to continued shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) by Pakistani forces. Speaking to the media, Karra stated that Poonch has borne the brunt of recent ceasefire violations, with several villages witnessing extensive damage to property and civilian infrastructure.

He emphasized that the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly those residing near the LoC, are being severely disrupted due to repeated instances of unprovoked firing. Many residents have been forced to abandon their homes and take shelter in safer areas. Karra highlighted the psychological trauma, economic losses, and educational disruptions caused by these hostilities, stating that the situation demands urgent government intervention.

The JKPCC president criticized what he called a lack of adequate response from both the Union and state administrations. He pointed out that although security forces are doing their best to protect the borders, the affected civilian population has not received timely relief, medical support, or rehabilitation assistance. He demanded that the government establish well-equipped relief camps, deploy medical teams, and ensure adequate supply of essential goods to the displaced.

Tariq Hamid Karra also called for the establishment of permanent bunkers and early warning systems in border villages. According to him, such infrastructure would offer at least some level of protection to people who live under constant fear of shelling. He argued that civilians should not be left to suffer due to geopolitical tensions and stressed that safeguarding their rights and safety is a fundamental responsibility of the state.

Karra’s remarks come in the backdrop of increased tensions along the LoC in recent weeks. According to local reports, the shelling has resulted in multiple injuries, loss of livestock, and damage to agricultural fields. Educational institutions have been closed temporarily in the affected areas, and normal life has come to a standstill.

Political observers believe that Karra’s strong statement is part of a larger appeal to prioritize civilian welfare in conflict-prone areas. His comments also signal growing concern within political circles over the impact of cross-border hostilities on day-to-day life in Jammu and Kashmir.

While ceasefire agreements between India and Pakistan have been signed in the past, violations continue to threaten the fragile peace along the border. Karra urged the central government to raise the issue diplomatically and hold Pakistan accountable for violating international norms and targeting civilians.

In conclusion, the situation in Poonch remains tense and challenging. JKPCC President Tariq Hamid Karra’s appeal has drawn attention to the urgent need for a comprehensive relief and protection plan for civilians caught in the conflict zone. The coming days will determine whether authorities act decisively to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.

Karra urged the central government to raise the issue diplomatically and hold Pakistan accountable for violating international norms and targeting civilians.
