Leader of Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has strongly criticised the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government, accusing it of not initiating any new development projects despite a reported increase in state revenue. Addressing the media, Palaniswami said that the current administration has failed to translate higher earnings into tangible progress for the people of the state.

He claimed that while the state government has consistently reported growth in tax and non-tax revenue, this increase has not reflected in visible infrastructure or welfare projects. According to him, the ruling party has focused more on publicity and announcements rather than delivering actual results on the ground. Palaniswami alleged that several promises made during the previous budget sessions remain unfulfilled, particularly in sectors such as health, education, and rural development.

Palaniswami also raised questions about the government’s priorities, accusing it of spending excessively on celebrations and advertisements while neglecting essential development work. He demanded transparency in the utilisation of funds and urged the state finance department to release a detailed report on budget allocations versus actual project implementation.

The AIADMK leader further criticised the government’s handling of industrial investment and employment generation. He said that Tamil Nadu, once a preferred destination for industries, is now losing its competitive edge due to poor infrastructure planning and lack of investor confidence. Palaniswami pointed out that no major industrial projects have been announced or inaugurated under the current regime, and unemployment among youth continues to rise.

In the context of agriculture, Palaniswami alleged that farmers are facing severe challenges due to poor irrigation support and delays in compensation payments. He added that drought-prone regions in the state are still waiting for effective water management schemes, and the government has not followed up on pending irrigation projects initiated during the AIADMK’s tenure.

Reacting to these criticisms, ministers from the ruling DMK government dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. They maintained that several welfare schemes, including free bus travel for women, education support for students, and healthcare investments, have been rolled out successfully. However, Palaniswami insisted that while some schemes may exist on paper, their implementation is limited and lacks scale.

He concluded by urging the people of Tamil Nadu to critically assess the government’s performance rather than being influenced by promotional campaigns. He also called for a special session in the Legislative Assembly to discuss the current status of key infrastructure projects and the overall direction of governance.

With elections approaching in the next year, this criticism signals a broader political campaign by the opposition to highlight alleged inefficiencies and to challenge the ruling party’s development narrative. The issue is likely to remain a central theme in the political discourse in Tamil Nadu in the coming months.

He claimed that while the state government has consistently reported growth in tax and non-tax revenue, this increase has not reflected in visible infrastructure or welfare projects.
