On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ken-Betwa river linking project, a significant milestone in India’s national water management strategy. The project, which aims to transfer water from the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh to the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh, is expected to provide irrigation benefits to farmers and improve water availability in drought-prone areas of both states.
During the foundation stone-laying ceremony, PM Modi highlighted the historical importance of the project and its potential to transform the lives of millions of people. The Ken-Betwa project is part of the National Perspective Plan for interlinking rivers and is designed to help in mitigating water scarcity, boosting agricultural productivity, and ensuring sustainable water use.
In his address, the Prime Minister also paid tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, recognizing his visionary contributions to the Indian Constitution and social reforms. PM Modi emphasized that Ambedkar’s vision of inclusive development and social justice aligns with the objectives of the Ken-Betwa river linking project, which aims to provide equitable water access and foster balanced regional growth.
The project has been a long-awaited initiative, and its completion is expected to revolutionize water distribution across the two states, benefiting agricultural communities and improving the region’s overall infrastructure. PM Modi’s remarks underscored the government’s commitment to transforming India’s rural economy while ensuring that development reaches every corner of the country.
With the foundation stone laid, the focus now shifts to executing this ambitious project, which is expected to serve as a model for future river linking initiatives across the nation.
