Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Union Government is fully committed to the development of Tamil Nadu, addressing a public rally in Madurai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Union Government is fully committed to the development of Tamil Nadu, addressing a public rally in Madurai. He emphasised that infrastructure funding allocated to the state has tripled compared to the previous decade, countering criticism that the Centre has not provided adequate support for major projects.

During his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted various infrastructure initiatives undertaken in Tamil Nadu in recent years. He referred to expanded highway networks, railway modernisation, airport upgrades and urban development schemes as examples of the Centre’s sustained investment in the state. According to him, these projects are aimed at improving connectivity, encouraging industrial growth and enhancing employment opportunities.

Modi rejected claims made by opposition leaders that the Union Government had failed to allocate sufficient funds for Tamil Nadu’s infrastructure needs. He stated that project approvals and financial assistance have been provided in accordance with established procedures and development priorities. He added that cooperative efforts between the Centre and the state are essential to ensure timely completion of public projects.

The Prime Minister also spoke about broader economic development initiatives, including support for small and medium enterprises, expansion of digital infrastructure and promotion of manufacturing corridors. He said that infrastructure growth plays a crucial role in strengthening economic resilience and attracting investment.

The rally in Madurai drew party workers and supporters from various districts. Political observers note that Tamil Nadu remains an important state in national electoral calculations, and infrastructure development is often a central theme in campaign discussions.

Officials from the Union Government have previously stated that allocations for road transport, railway expansion and housing schemes in Tamil Nadu have increased steadily over the past several years. Data from government departments indicate enhanced outlays for national highway construction and rail electrification projects in the region.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid political debate between the ruling party at the Centre and opposition parties in the state regarding financial devolution and project implementation. While opposition leaders have raised concerns about funding distribution, the Union Government maintains that allocations are made based on objective criteria and national development frameworks.

In his address, Modi emphasised that long term infrastructure development requires policy continuity and transparent governance. He urged party workers to communicate details of completed and ongoing projects to the public.

The speech in Madurai forms part of a broader outreach programme in southern states. As electoral activities intensify, infrastructure investment and economic development are expected to remain key issues in political discourse.

The Union Government has reiterated its commitment to balanced regional growth, stating that Tamil Nadu continues to receive substantial support for projects aimed at strengthening connectivity, urban facilities and industrial expansion.

He referred to expanded highway networks, railway modernisation, airport upgrades and urban development schemes as examples of the Centre’s sustained investment in the state.
