Political strategist and Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor has stirred a fresh debate in Bihar politics by claiming that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is uneasy about Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s rising profile.

Political strategist and Jan Suraaj leader Prashant Kishor has stirred a fresh debate in Bihar politics by claiming that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is uneasy about Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s rising profile. Reacting to a recent incident where Kanhaiya Kumar was allegedly excluded from a campaign vehicle during a joint opposition rally, Kishor stated that the RJD’s move reflects internal fear that Kumar may emerge as a challenger to the party’s leadership.

The so-called “van snub” incident took place during an opposition unity event in Bihar, where leaders from allied parties came together to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. While several senior leaders from Congress and RJD shared the campaign stage and vehicle, Kanhaiya Kumar was notably left out. The optics of the event raised questions, as Kumar has been one of the more vocal and visible faces of the Congress in Bihar.

Speaking on the matter, Prashant Kishor alleged that the RJD’s decision was not accidental. “The RJD leadership is aware that Kanhaiya Kumar appeals to the youth and has the potential to connect with large sections of Bihar’s population. This creates a perceived threat to the party’s existing leadership structure,” he said. Kishor added that such exclusionary tactics signal an unwillingness to allow space for emerging political voices.

Kishor, who has previously worked as a political strategist for both the BJP and opposition parties including the Congress, has now turned critic of traditional party structures through his Jan Suraaj movement. He argued that Indian politics needs fresh leadership and that parties must evolve to accommodate new talent rather than suppress it.

In response to these comments, RJD leaders downplayed the incident and denied any political intent behind the vehicle arrangement. They insisted that there was no deliberate attempt to sideline any ally and that logistics should not be read as a political message. However, the issue has continued to draw attention, especially on social media, where visuals from the event sparked widespread discussion.

Kanhaiya Kumar, a former JNU student leader, has grown into a prominent national voice within the Congress, especially among younger voters and in left-leaning circles. His speeches and public engagements have often attracted large crowds, and his presence has added energy to Congress campaigns, particularly in Bihar.

Analysts suggest that Kishor’s remarks are aimed at highlighting generational friction within political parties and may also serve to boost his own political relevance by aligning with the public sentiment for change. They note that the Congress and RJD, despite being alliance partners, have their own internal dynamics that influence such decisions.

As the election season progresses, the question of leadership transition and generational change is expected to remain a central theme in Indian politics. The incident involving Kanhaiya Kumar, whether intentional or not, may continue to fuel this larger conversation.

Reacting to a recent incident where Kanhaiya Kumar was allegedly excluded from a campaign vehicle during a joint opposition rally, Kishor stated that the RJD’s move reflects internal fear that Kumar may emerge as a challenger to the party’s leadership.
