Addressing reporters, Ashoka said that Priyanka Gandhi had actively lobbied the Karnataka government on Kerala-related matters but did not display the same urgency when concerns impacting Karnataka residents were raised.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Karnataka Leader of Opposition R Ashoka on Friday launched a sharp attack on Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accusing her of showing selective concern when it comes to regional issues. Ashoka alleged that while Priyanka Gandhi was quick to intervene on matters related to Kerala, she remained silent on issues affecting Kannadigas, including language, rights, and regional interests.

Addressing reporters, Ashoka said that Priyanka Gandhi had actively lobbied the Karnataka government on Kerala-related matters but did not display the same urgency when concerns impacting Karnataka residents were raised. He argued that such selective engagement undermines the principle of equal representation and raises questions about political priorities.

Ashoka emphasized that Kannadigas expect national leaders and Members of Parliament to speak up for regional interests, especially on sensitive issues involving language and cultural identity. He claimed that silence on Karnataka-related concerns while intervening in neighboring state matters reflected an imbalance in political attention.

The BJP leader’s remarks come at a time when inter-state issues and linguistic identity have become prominent topics in Karnataka’s political discourse. Ashoka alleged that leaders representing constituencies outside the state should refrain from influencing Karnataka’s internal matters unless similar concern is shown for the state’s people and their interests.

Political observers note that the statement reflects the broader political rivalry between the BJP and the Congress, particularly in southern states. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who represents Kerala’s Wayanad constituency, has been active in regional and national political affairs, including issues that involve coordination between neighboring states.

Ashoka further stated that Karnataka leaders have consistently defended the state’s interests and cultural heritage, and any perceived neglect of these concerns would not be acceptable to the people. He urged political leaders to maintain consistency and fairness when addressing inter-state matters, especially in a federal system like India’s.

The Congress party has not immediately responded to Ashoka’s allegations. Meanwhile, the remarks have sparked political debate in Karnataka, with both parties expected to exchange further statements in the coming days.

In conclusion, R Ashoka’s criticism of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra highlights ongoing political tensions over regional representation and inter-state issues. The comments underline the importance of balanced political engagement and equal advocacy for all regions, particularly in a diverse and federal country like India.

He urged political leaders to maintain consistency and fairness when addressing inter-state matters, especially in a federal system like India’s.
