Priyanka Gandhi called for Congress workers, especially those in the Youth Congress and Seva Dal wings, to mobilize resources such as food, drinking water, medical aid, and shelter materials.

New Delhi – Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday expressed heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the severe flooding in parts of northeastern India, where heavy rains have led to fatalities, property loss, and mass displacement. In a public statement, she mourned the loss of lives and called upon the Congress party's local units and volunteers to immediately extend help and relief to the victims.

“The news coming in from the flood-hit areas of the Northeast is deeply painful. I offer my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. My thoughts are with the affected families during this difficult time,” Priyanka said in her statement.

She particularly emphasized the need for urgent and coordinated relief operations in the affected states, including Assam, Manipur, and Meghalaya, where multiple districts have reported critical damage. The rising levels of rivers, including the Brahmaputra, have caused widespread flooding in several low-lying and rural areas, forcing thousands into relief camps and leaving many without access to basic necessities.

Priyanka Gandhi called for Congress workers, especially those in the Youth Congress and Seva Dal wings, to mobilize resources such as food, drinking water, medical aid, and shelter materials. She further stressed the importance of collaborating with local NGOs and district authorities to ensure effective and prompt delivery of assistance.

In addition to appealing for relief, she also urged the central and state governments to intensify rescue efforts, deploy additional disaster response forces, and prepare for long-term rehabilitation plans. She pointed out that recurring floods in the region demand stronger infrastructure, river management, and climate resilience policies.

“Natural calamities of this scale should not become an annual tragedy. We must focus on sustainable development and adequate disaster preparedness to protect our citizens,” she added.

Congress party sources confirmed that coordination teams have already been activated in affected regions to assess needs and distribute aid. Senior party leaders from Assam and neighboring states are also visiting flood-hit districts to oversee relief work and communicate with local authorities.

Priyanka Gandhi’s message comes at a time when the situation remains critical, with meteorological departments warning of continued rainfall in the coming days. Her response reflects the Congress party’s position of standing in solidarity with disaster-hit communities, especially in underrepresented and frequently affected regions like the Northeast.

Her statement was widely circulated on social media and received support from party workers and the general public, who appreciated her swift call for action and empathy toward the victims.

As rescue and relief operations continue, political and humanitarian efforts are being urged from all fronts to mitigate further damage and offer hope to thousands struggling to survive the aftermath of the floods.

In addition to appealing for relief, she also urged the central and state governments to intensify rescue efforts , deploy additional disaster response forces, and prepare for long-term rehabilitation plans.
