The remarks were made while Dhami was addressing a public rally, where he condemned the state government for its failure to maintain law and order.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal and its leader Mamata Banerjee in the wake of recent violence reported in Murshidabad. The remarks were made while Dhami was addressing a public rally, where he condemned the state government for its failure to maintain law and order.

Referring to the Murshidabad incident, where clashes between political workers left several injured, Dhami said:

“A government that thrives on violence cannot last long. Sooner or later, the people will throw away Mamata Banerjee and her TMC for the breakdown of democracy in West Bengal.”

The BJP leader accused the TMC of allowing political violence to become the norm during elections and alleged that the state administration often sides with party loyalists instead of ensuring justice. He stated that incidents like those in Murshidabad are not isolated but part of a recurring pattern under the TMC rule.

“What we’re seeing in Bengal is not democracy but fear. Elections are being hijacked by muscle power and intimidation. The people of Bengal deserve better,” he added.

The recent violence in Murshidabad occurred during campaigning activities for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, with reports of clashes between supporters of rival parties, including the BJP and TMC. Several video clips of stone pelting, arson, and police inaction have surfaced, drawing widespread criticism.

Dhami’s comments are being seen as part of the BJP’s broader campaign to corner Mamata Banerjee on law and order issues. He urged central authorities to intervene where necessary to uphold democratic values and protect citizens' rights during the election process.

TMC leaders, however, have responded sharply, accusing the BJP of politicizing a local issue and attempting to tarnish West Bengal’s image for electoral gain. A party spokesperson said, “Dhami should focus on governance in Uttarakhand instead of spreading misinformation about Bengal.”

Meanwhile, political analysts believe that the escalation of war of words between state and national leaders signals the intensifying battle for control in key Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal, where the BJP is hoping to expand its presence.

As the election campaign heats up, law and order concerns, governance records, and political accountability are expected to remain key talking points for both BJP and TMC leaders.
