In a recent reshuffle of the Parliamentary Standing Committees for the 2024-2025 session, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has retained his position as a member of the Defence Affairs Committee. This committee, crucial for overseeing matters related to national defense, is chaired by BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh. Gandhi's ongoing involvement underscores his party's focus on defense issues amidst a politically charged environment.
On the other hand, Kangana Ranaut, the well-known actress and BJP MP, has made her parliamentary debut by joining the Communications and Information Technology Committee. This marks a significant step for Ranaut as she transitions from her film career to the political arena, where she will contribute to discussions on vital technological advancements and policies impacting the digital landscape of India.
The restructuring saw the Congress party gain leadership roles in several key committees, with notable appointments including Digvijaya Singh chairing the Women, Education, Youth, and Sports Committee and Shashi Tharoor at the helm of the Foreign Affairs Committee. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continues to hold significant influence with leaders like Nishikant Dubey leading the IT committee.
The formation of these committees is vital for legislative oversight, as they review budgetary allocations, scrutinize bills, and recommend policies that impact various sectors. Each committee combines members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, reflecting a collaborative approach to governance.
