Gandhi criticized the government's prolonged delay in holding assembly elections, asserting that the absence of an elected government has contributed to instability and unrest in the region.

In a strongly-worded statement during his recent rally, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated his demand for the restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir. Accusing the central government of stripping away the democratic rights of the region's residents, Gandhi said, "Your democratic rights have been taken away." He emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve full statehood and the restoration of their legislative assembly.

Gandhi's remarks come amid ongoing debates surrounding the region's governance following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. He further expressed concerns about the prolonged delay in holding assembly elections, which he claims is depriving the region of its political voice. Gandhi vowed that his party would continue to fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, promising full support to the people in their struggle for democratic rights and self-governance.

In a passionate address during a recent rally, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi emphasized the urgent need to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, underscoring the ongoing erosion of democratic rights in the region. He argued that the current Union Territory status has marginalized the voices of the local population, leaving them without the political representation they deserve.

Gandhi highlighted that the central government’s actions have led to significant disenfranchisement, as residents are deprived of their ability to elect their representatives and participate fully in the democratic process. He stated, "Your democratic rights have been taken away," reinforcing his commitment to advocating for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The call for statehood comes in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and restructured its political framework. Gandhi criticized the government's prolonged delay in holding assembly elections, asserting that the absence of an elected government has contributed to instability and unrest in the region.

He urged the central government to prioritize the aspirations of the people and restore their rights by reinstating full statehood, which would enable the region to have its legislative assembly and greater autonomy. Gandhi expressed solidarity with the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir, promising that the Congress party would continue to fight for their rights and work towards ensuring a democratic and just future for the region. He called on citizens to unite in this struggle, emphasizing that statehood is not just a political demand but a fundamental necessity for the welfare and empowerment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Accusing the central government of stripping away the democratic rights of the region's residents, Gandhi said, "Your democratic rights have been taken away." He emphasized that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve full statehood and the restoration of their legislative assembly.
