He reiterated his call for transparent and fair electoral processes, stating that free and fair elections are the backbone of a healthy democracy.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has intensified his political campaign with a strong message from Bihar, declaring that he is waging a direct fight against “vote chori” or electoral malpractice. Speaking to enthusiastic crowds during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Gandhi accused the ruling government of systematically undermining democratic processes and attempting to manipulate the electoral mandate.

Addressing a gathering in the heart of Bihar, Gandhi said that the Yatra is not merely an exercise in political outreach but a nationwide movement to protect the rights guaranteed under the Constitution. He asserted that the people’s mandate is sacred and must be respected, stressing that any attempt to distort election results is an attack on democracy itself.

The Congress leader also criticised what he described as an erosion of institutional independence, claiming that various bodies responsible for safeguarding elections are being influenced by those in power. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and to participate actively in defending the democratic framework. According to Gandhi, this fight is not about one party or leader but about the fundamental principles that define India as a republic.

During his speeches, Gandhi linked electoral malpractice to wider issues affecting the country, including unemployment, economic inequality, and farmers’ distress. He argued that a government born out of manipulated elections is less likely to prioritise public welfare and more likely to serve vested interests. He reiterated his call for transparent and fair electoral processes, stating that free and fair elections are the backbone of a healthy democracy.

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has been strategically designed to cover states and regions where Gandhi believes democratic values are under the greatest threat. Bihar, with its rich history of political movements, was described by him as an ideal starting point for this phase of the campaign. The choice of Bihar also carries symbolic weight, as it has been the epicentre of many significant socio-political movements in India’s history.

Political analysts suggest that this strong rhetoric against “vote chori” is aimed at consolidating opposition support and energising grassroots workers ahead of upcoming elections. Gandhi’s direct targeting of the issue may also resonate with voters who are concerned about the credibility of the electoral system.

The Yatra has drawn large crowds, with party workers and supporters walking alongside Gandhi across towns and villages. The events have been marked by public meetings, interactions with local communities, and symbolic gestures such as visits to historic sites that played key roles in India’s democratic journey.

Rahul Gandhi concluded his address by calling upon citizens to stand united against any form of electoral manipulation. He pledged that the Congress party would continue to fight for a transparent political process, one that ensures every vote is counted fairly and every voice is heard. According to him, safeguarding democracy begins with protecting the integrity of the ballot box.
