A fresh political controversy erupted in Parliament after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remark against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu triggered strong reactions from the ruling party. The comment led to heated exchanges in both Houses, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strongly condemn the statement during proceedings in the Rajya Sabha.

Prime Minister Modi described the remark as deeply inappropriate and said it amounted to an insult to the Sikh community. He accused the Congress leadership of displaying arrogance and insensitivity, stating that such language had no place in democratic discourse. The Prime Minister’s intervention intensified the political standoff, with treasury bench members demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi.

The controversy escalated further when opposition Members of Parliament staged a protest inside the Parliament complex. During the protest, several MPs echoed Rahul Gandhi’s phrase “Jo uchit samjho wahi karo”, which drew sharp criticism from the ruling party. The slogan was seen as a direct response to the Prime Minister’s remarks and added fuel to the ongoing confrontation.

As tempers flared, the Lok Sabha witnessed repeated disruptions. Opposition MPs raised slogans and demanded that their concerns be addressed, while ruling party members objected to the conduct of the protest. Amid the uproar, the Speaker adjourned the House, bringing legislative business to a halt for the day.

The Congress defended Rahul Gandhi, stating that his comments were being misrepresented and taken out of context. Party leaders accused the government of diverting attention from key issues by focusing on remarks instead of policy discussions. They also criticised what they described as selective outrage by the ruling party.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party reiterated their demand for a public apology. They said the remark had hurt sentiments and crossed the limits of political debate. BJP leaders argued that Parliament should uphold decorum and mutual respect, especially on sensitive matters involving communities.

Political analysts note that the incident reflects the growing tension between the government and opposition during the current parliamentary session. Repeated adjournments have already affected legislative productivity, with several key discussions postponed due to disruptions.

The row has also spilled beyond Parliament, drawing reactions from political leaders across party lines. While some have called for restraint and dialogue, others have used the episode to reinforce their political narratives ahead of upcoming elections.

As the session continues, it remains to be seen whether both sides will de-escalate tensions and return to substantive debate. For now, the controversy has once again highlighted the deep divisions and sharp rhetoric that dominate India’s political landscape.
