The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting in Ayodhya on Wednesday to take a final decision on the appointment of the first Chief Executive Officer of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Trust.
The proposed appointment is part of the Trust’s efforts to establish a structured administrative mechanism for managing the growing responsibilities associated with the Ram temple and its wider activities. Trust member Mahant Dinendra Das Maharaj confirmed that the meeting would begin at 2 pm and said that the decision would be taken with the agreement of the members.
The selection process for the CEO post has been extensive. More than 5,000 applications were received and screened by a search committee appointed for the purpose. The committee subsequently narrowed down the list of candidates through multiple stages of evaluation and interviews before preparing its final recommendations for the Trust.
According to reports, the search committee submitted its final report to the Trust on Tuesday. The report contains the committee’s recommendations, which will now be considered by the members of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust during the meeting.
The appointment will be significant because the CEO will be responsible for handling important administrative responsibilities associated with the Trust. Reports on the selection process have indicated that the role includes responsibilities connected with legal, administrative and financial matters, compliance with the Trust deed and financial transparency.
The selection exercise began with a large pool of applicants. After an initial screening process, the number of candidates was reduced considerably. The Indian Express reported in August that 18 candidates had been shortlisted for the final stage from more than 5,000 applications.
The selection committee subsequently moved towards preparing a smaller final panel. Recent reports said that three principal candidates and three reserve candidates were to be presented for the final selection process. The latest reports indicate that the committee has now completed its work and submitted its final recommendations to the Trust.
The Trust is expected to examine the recommendations before taking the final decision. Since the appointment is being made by the Trust, the final outcome depends on the decision of its members rather than the search committee alone.
Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj, a senior member of the Trust, has indicated that an announcement regarding the selected candidate could be made after the Trust meeting. However, until the Trust formally approves the appointment, the identity of the new CEO should not be treated as confirmed.
The selection process has attracted attention because the position is expected to play an important role in the future administration of the temple complex. The Ram temple has become a major pilgrimage destination following the consecration ceremony in January 2024, increasing the importance of organised administration, visitor management and financial oversight.
The CEO will potentially have to coordinate several areas of the Trust’s functioning. These include administrative planning, financial management, legal matters, institutional coordination and implementation of decisions taken by the Trust. The role is therefore expected to require substantial administrative experience and the ability to manage a large and complex religious institution.
The large number of applications received for the position also indicates the level of interest in the post. The search committee reportedly used a structured evaluation process to assess applicants before moving candidates through successive stages. This approach was intended to identify candidates with the experience and qualifications considered necessary for the responsibilities of the position.
The final meeting is therefore expected to mark the conclusion of a lengthy selection exercise. Trust members will have to consider the search committee’s assessment and reach a collective decision.
The appointment also comes at a stage when the administration of the Ram temple and its surrounding facilities is becoming increasingly important. With large numbers of devotees visiting Ayodhya, the Trust faces continuing responsibilities involving temple operations, facilities, visitor services and financial administration.
The CEO position is expected to provide a dedicated administrative leadership structure for these responsibilities. The person selected will work within the framework established by the Trust and will be responsible for carrying out administrative functions assigned to the office.
The Trust’s Wednesday meeting will therefore be closely watched for the announcement of its first CEO. If the members approve the search committee’s recommendation, the selected candidate will become the first person to hold the newly created position.
Until an official announcement is made, however, reports about individual candidates should be treated as part of the selection process rather than as a confirmed appointment. The final decision rests with the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
The appointment is expected to provide another layer of administrative organisation for the management of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and the Trust’s expanding responsibilities in Ayodhya. The outcome of the meeting will clarify who will take charge of the executive responsibilities associated with the position and how the Trust plans to strengthen its administrative structure in the coming years.
