Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPI(ML)] organized a large-scale protest outside the Bihar Legislative Assembly, demanding swift government action on two major concerns: the protection of reservation policies and the arrest of industrial magnate Gautam Adani. The demonstration took place in Patna, where party workers and leaders gathered in large numbers to express their discontent.
The central issue raised by the protesters was the alleged weakening of reservation policies for backward classes and Scheduled Castes in Bihar. RJD and CPI(ML) leaders claimed that the current government was not doing enough to safeguard the rights and benefits granted under the reservation system. They criticized the state’s administration for not implementing policies that would ensure social justice for marginalized communities.
Apart from the reservation issue, the opposition parties focused their protests on the alleged corruption and financial misdeeds involving the Adani Group. The companies under Adani’s control have faced scrutiny over alleged stock manipulation, and RJD and CPI(ML) leaders demanded the arrest of Gautam Adani in connection with these accusations. This move is seen as a part of the ongoing national debate over the business tycoon’s influence and the allegations of impropriety surrounding his empire.
The protest outside the assembly turned tense as police authorities had to step in to maintain law and order. Riot control measures were deployed, and several protesters were detained briefly during the demonstration. The opposition parties, however, have vowed to keep the pressure on the government, claiming that they will not let these critical issues be ignored.
The RJD and CPI(ML) have warned the state government that they will continue to raise these issues in the upcoming sessions of the Bihar Assembly. They have called for more robust action on reservation rights and an in-depth probe into the Adani Group’s financial dealings.
Political analysts have pointed out that these protests are part of the larger political discourse in Bihar, where opposition parties are taking a firm stance against the state government’s policies. The outcome of these protests could influence the political landscape in Bihar, particularly in light of the 2024 elections.
In response to the protests, the Bihar government has maintained that it is committed to upholding the rights of backward classes and ensuring equitable development for all citizens. However, it remains to be seen how the government will address the mounting pressure from opposition parties and civil society organizations regarding these issues.
The protests by RJD and CPI(ML) outside the Bihar Legislative Assembly reflect the growing political tensions in the state over key issues of reservation and corporate accountability. The opposition parties’ call for the arrest of Gautam Adani and their demand for stronger reservation policies have resonated with many, adding momentum to the ongoing political discourse in Bihar. With these issues likely to dominate the state’s political agenda, the response from the government and other political parties will be crucial in shaping the state’s political future.
