Politics Heats Up Before General Elections With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approaching , both national parties have increased their attacks on one another.

The war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition INDIA alliance escalated on Tuesday after BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra sharply criticized the Congress party. Responding to a social media post from the Congress that mocked BJP leaders as “gayab” (missing), Patra referred to the INDIA bloc as the “Pindi alliance”, implying alleged sympathies with Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference, Patra accused the Congress and its allies of being part of a group that no longer serves national interests. “This is not the INDI alliance. It is the 'Pindi alliance'. Their ideas, actions, and statements are all aligned with Pakistan’s interests,” he claimed, suggesting that their political narrative helps India’s adversaries.

Congress’s 'Gayab' Post Triggers BJP Reaction

The controversy was sparked after the Congress party posted an image on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle showing silhouettes of BJP leaders with the caption “Gayab hain” (They are missing). The post was an apparent attempt to highlight what Congress claims is the absence of governance and accountability under BJP rule.

In retaliation, Patra lashed out at the Congress, saying such posts show the desperation of a failing opposition. “When you have no real agenda, you resort to cheap social media tactics. This is how the Congress is trying to stay relevant,” he said.

Politics Heats Up Before General Elections

With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approaching, both national parties have increased their attacks on one another. Patra’s labeling of the INDIA bloc as the “Pindi alliance” is a direct insinuation of being soft on Pakistan, with “Pindi” referring to Rawalpindi, the headquarters of the Pakistan Army.

The BJP leader also brought up past statements by opposition leaders, accusing them of speaking in ways that "are often used by Pakistan in international forums to target India."

“The INDIA alliance is fractured, leaderless, and directionless. They have nothing to offer the nation except confusion and chaos,” Patra said, emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to “strong leadership and national security.”

 Mixed Reactions Across Political Circles

The remark has triggered strong responses from opposition leaders, who accused Patra and the BJP of trying to divert attention from core issues such as unemployment, inflation, and farmer distress. Several Congress leaders called the “Pindi alliance” comment irresponsible and a sign of political immaturity.

Social media users also weighed in, with opinions divided along party lines. While BJP supporters hailed Patra’s aggressive stance, critics accused the party of promoting divisive rhetoric instead of addressing governance issues.

Conclusion

As the political battle intensifies in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, sharp exchanges like these highlight the deep polarization in Indian politics. Sambit Patra’s "Pindi alliance" jibe and the Congress’s “gayab” campaign have become flashpoints in the larger contest to shape public perception ahead of one of the most crucial elections in recent years.
