Shiv Sena UBT leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has raised grave doubts over the death of Nationalist Congress Party chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, calling the incident suspicious and demanding a comprehensive investigation. Raut’s remarks came days after Pawar was killed in a plane crash in Baramati, an incident that has triggered political debate and speculation.
Speaking to the media, Raut said that questions were bound to arise due to Ajit Pawar’s prominence in Maharashtra politics. He stated that the circumstances surrounding the crash appeared unclear and suggested that something may have occurred behind the scenes. According to Raut, such a significant incident involving a senior political leader cannot be accepted without detailed scrutiny.
Drawing a parallel with the death of former judge Justice B H Loya, Raut asked whether there was more to the incident than what was being officially presented. He questioned whether all facts were being made public and stressed the need for transparency. Raut said that in cases involving high profile individuals, public confidence can only be restored through an independent and credible investigation.
The Shiv Sena UBT leader said that Ajit Pawar was not just a senior politician but a powerful figure in state politics, and his sudden death in a plane crash had naturally raised concerns. He added that several details emerging after the incident have deepened suspicions and made it necessary to probe every angle thoroughly.
Raut clarified that he was not making a direct allegation against any individual or institution but was voicing concerns that many people were privately expressing. He said that raising questions should not be seen as disrespectful but as part of a democratic process aimed at uncovering the truth.
The comments have sparked strong reactions across political circles, with leaders from different parties responding sharply. Supporters of the ruling alliance dismissed Raut’s remarks as irresponsible and politically motivated, accusing him of attempting to politicise a tragic incident. They said investigations were already underway and urged leaders to refrain from making speculative statements.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have echoed calls for transparency and accountability, stating that a clear and detailed investigation would help put an end to rumours and speculation. Some leaders have demanded that findings of the probe be made public to ensure credibility.
Authorities have not yet responded directly to Raut’s statements but have maintained that standard investigative procedures are being followed. Officials said all technical and safety aspects of the crash are under examination and that conclusions will be drawn only after a thorough review.
Ajit Pawar’s death has left a significant void in Maharashtra politics, with leaders across party lines expressing shock and condolences. As political tensions rise over the circumstances of the incident, the demand for a transparent investigation continues to grow, keeping the issue firmly in the national spotlight.
