Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has raised questions about the stability of the National Democratic Alliance, stating that the ruling bloc’s decision to approach Opposition parties ahead of the Vice Presidential election reflects a “shaky majority.” Raut, who has been a vocal critic of the NDA government, argued that the outreach shows a lack of confidence within the alliance, even though it holds a significant presence in Parliament.

Addressing the media, Raut said that if the NDA was confident about its numbers, there would have been no need to seek Opposition support. He described the move as an indication of political nervousness and said it revealed cracks within the ruling alliance. According to him, the Opposition parties must recognize this moment as an opportunity to come together and strengthen their role in parliamentary democracy.

The Vice Presidential election, though often seen as less contested compared to other constitutional posts, has now become the subject of intense political discussion. The NDA has put forward its candidate and is working to ensure a smooth victory. However, Raut’s comments have opened up a broader debate about the internal cohesion of the ruling bloc.

Raut further stated that Opposition unity is crucial, not only for this election but also for future political battles. He emphasized that if parties opposed to the NDA come together on a common platform, they can influence key parliamentary processes. According to him, the Vice Presidential polls should not be dismissed as a routine exercise, but rather as a test of strength for both sides of the political spectrum.

Political analysts suggest that Raut’s remarks are part of a larger Opposition strategy to highlight what they see as the declining confidence of the ruling alliance. While the NDA maintains that its outreach is aimed at ensuring wider support for its candidate in the spirit of parliamentary consensus, critics like Raut interpret it as a sign of weakness.

The Vice President plays a significant constitutional role as the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. With crucial legislative decisions pending in the Upper House, the election has assumed added importance. The NDA is keen to secure the position firmly, while the Opposition views it as an opportunity to underline its relevance in parliamentary politics.

The ruling alliance has countered the claims, asserting that reaching out to Opposition parties is a healthy democratic practice and does not reflect any weakness. According to them, the government has always aimed at consensus-building on key constitutional posts. They argue that Opposition criticism only reflects political posturing ahead of the polls.

Raut’s remarks have nonetheless amplified the ongoing political discourse around numbers, influence, and strategy in Parliament. With the Vice Presidential election approaching, both the NDA and the Opposition are intensifying their efforts, making the contest more politically charged than in previous years.

The outcome of the election will not only decide who occupies the post of Vice President but also signal the strength and strategies of both camps as they prepare for upcoming political challenges.

While the NDA maintains that its outreach is aimed at ensuring wider support for its candidate in the spirit of parliamentary consensus, critics like Raut interpret it as a sign of weakness.
