Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor on Friday praised former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, describing him as a sincere individual and a strong voice against communalism in the country. Tharoor’s remarks are being viewed as a sign of renewed bonhomie with the party leadership following his recent meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi.
Speaking after the meeting, Tharoor acknowledged Rahul Gandhi’s role in highlighting issues related to social harmony and inclusive politics. He said that Rahul Gandhi has consistently spoken out against divisive forces and has emerged as an important voice in national political discourse. Tharoor’s comments come amid speculation about his future role within the party following recent internal differences.
The meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge was aimed at resolving concerns and strengthening internal coordination within the Congress. Party leaders described the discussions as constructive and focused on ensuring unity ahead of the upcoming elections. According to sources, the leadership emphasised the importance of collective effort and discipline as the party prepares for crucial electoral battles.
Following the interaction, Congress leaders indicated that Shashi Tharoor is likely to play a prominent role in the party’s election campaign. Known for his articulation and public engagement, Tharoor is expected to be one of the party’s star campaigners, addressing rallies and interacting with voters across key constituencies.
The Congress has been working to present a united front as it faces electoral challenges at both the state and national levels. Senior leaders have repeatedly stressed the need for internal cohesion and coordinated messaging. Tharoor’s public praise of Rahul Gandhi is seen as reinforcing this message and demonstrating alignment with the party’s leadership.
Political observers note that Tharoor’s stature as a senior leader and his appeal among urban and young voters could strengthen the Congress’s campaign narrative. His participation as a campaigner may help the party articulate its positions on issues such as democracy, secularism and governance more effectively.
The Congress leadership has not yet officially announced the list of star campaigners, but sources suggest that Tharoor’s role will be significant in the coming weeks. The party is expected to focus on key themes, including social justice, economic concerns and constitutional values, as part of its election strategy.
As preparations intensify, the meeting between Tharoor, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge is being seen as an important step toward reinforcing unity within the Congress. Party leaders have expressed confidence that coordinated efforts and collective leadership will help strengthen the party’s position in the upcoming polls.
