Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said that the Bharatiya Janata Party continues to remain a marginal player in Kerala’s political landscape as the state prepares for the upcoming assembly elections. His remarks come at a time when political activity in the state is intensifying ahead of polling scheduled for April 9.
According to Tharoor, the primary contest in Kerala has traditionally been between the Left Democratic Front and the United Democratic Front. The Congress leader also indicated that the BJP could at best open its account in the state assembly, but is unlikely to play the role of a kingmaker. He emphasised that Kerala’s political dynamics are distinct from many other states, with voters traditionally favouring either the Left or the Congress led alliance.
