Shiromani Akali Dal Plans Three-Phase Yatra Across Punjab, Starting on November 10

New Delhi, October 20: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is preparing to conduct a three-phase statewide yatra across Punjab, with the programme planned to begin and conclude at prominent religious sites. Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal is scheduled to launch the first phase on November 10 from Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo, according to reports published by The Economic Times and ThePrint. The initiative is expected to cover all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab.

The first phase will focus on the Malwa region, covering more than 65 Assembly constituencies. According to the announced plan, the yatra will visit two constituencies each day. Badal is expected to travel by road in a specially designed bus and address party workers and gatherings along the route.

First phase to cover the Malwa region

The first phase of the yatra is scheduled to begin on November 10 and continue until November 22. Talwandi Sabo, located in Punjab's Bathinda district, will serve as the starting point. The launch is planned at Sri Damdama Sahib, an important Sikh religious site.

During this phase, the party leadership is expected to travel through more than 65 Assembly constituencies in the Malwa region. The daily programme will include visits to two constituencies, with opportunities for Badal to interact with party workers and address gatherings along the route.

The proposed schedule is intended to take the party president directly to local areas rather than limiting outreach activities to a few major centres. The party expects the statewide programme to provide opportunities for its leadership to engage with its grassroots organisation across Punjab.

Second and third phases planned

The second phase is expected to begin at Sri Anandpur Sahib and cover the Doaba region. The third phase is planned to begin at Sri Akal Takht Sahib and cover the Majha region, according to The Economic Times report.

The three phases together are intended to take the yatra through all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab. The plan links each phase to prominent religious locations, reflecting the party's emphasis on its religious and cultural identity.

The detailed routes and schedules for the later phases should be confirmed through further announcements from the party. The available reports describe the broad structure of the programme but do not establish every stop or the precise timing of all subsequent visits.

Focus on party workers and public outreach

During the yatra, Sukhbir Singh Badal is expected to address party workers and gatherings in the constituencies covered by the programme. The visits will provide opportunities for local party members to meet senior leadership and discuss issues affecting their areas.

The announcement follows meetings involving the party's Scheduled Caste, Backward Class and Youth wings. According to a report published by ThePrint, senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema said that feedback had been collected on issues to be considered for the party's election manifesto, along with suggestions related to strengthening the organisation.

The yatra is therefore expected to form part of the party's broader organisational activities across Punjab. However, the specific issues to be raised at each stop and the final programme for all three phases will depend on announcements from the party.

Religious sites to mark the phases

The planned use of prominent religious sites at the beginning and end of the phases is a notable feature of the programme. Sri Damdama Sahib, Sri Anandpur Sahib and Sri Akal Takht Sahib are associated with Sikh religious history and tradition.

According to The Economic Times report, the three-phase route will connect the Malwa, Doaba and Majha regions, with the final phase concluding at Damdama Sahib. The arrangement combines statewide political outreach with visits to significant religious places.

The programme is expected to provide the party leadership with an opportunity to reach constituencies across the state and engage with its local organisation. The yatra's progress, route details and subsequent phase dates will become clearer as the party releases further information.

The first phase is scheduled to begin on November 10 from Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo. It will cover more than 65 Assembly constituencies in the Malwa region, with Sukhbir Singh Badal travelling by road and addressing gatherings along the way. The wider plan is to complete the three phases across all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab.

During this phase, the party leadership is expected to travel through more than 65 Assembly constituencies in the Malwa region.
