Tirupati
The CBI led Special Investigation Team has filed its final charge sheet in the Tirupati laddu case, concluding that there is no evidence to support allegations of animal fat being used in the preparation of the sacred laddus offered at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. The findings have triggered a fresh political debate in Andhra Pradesh, with the opposition YSR Congress Party demanding an apology from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
The investigation was launched after allegations surfaced that adulterated ghee containing animal fat had been used in the preparation of laddus distributed to devotees at the Tirupati temple. The claims had sparked widespread outrage, leading to political accusations and concerns over religious sentiments.
According to the charge sheet filed by the SIT, forensic analysis and examination of supply records did not reveal the presence of animal fat in the ghee used during the period under investigation. Officials involved in the probe stated that all samples tested were found to be compliant with prescribed quality standards.
Following the submission of the charge sheet, the YSR Congress Party accused the ruling leadership of spreading unverified claims and misleading the public. YSRCP leaders said that the allegations had caused distress among devotees and harmed the sanctity of one of the country’s most revered temples. They argued that the SIT findings clearly disprove the earlier claims and warrant a public apology.
The party further alleged that statements made by senior leaders had damaged communal harmony and undermined public trust in religious institutions. YSRCP spokespersons maintained that political narratives should be based on verified facts, especially when sensitive religious issues are involved.
The ruling Telugu Desam Party and its allies have maintained that the investigation was ordered to ensure transparency and accountability. Government representatives stated that raising concerns about food quality was aimed at protecting the interests of devotees and upholding standards at the temple. They added that the SIT probe was conducted independently and without political interference.
Temple authorities have also reiterated their commitment to maintaining the purity and quality of prasadam. Officials from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams stated that strict procurement and quality control measures are in place to ensure that laddus are prepared according to traditional practices.
Political analysts note that the issue has highlighted the sensitivity surrounding religious institutions and the need for responsible public communication. They emphasised that investigative findings should guide public discourse rather than speculation.
As the matter now moves forward in the legal process, reactions from political parties continue to shape the debate. The SIT’s findings are expected to play a key role in addressing public concerns and restoring confidence among devotees.
