His re-election comes at a time when the party is focusing on revitalizing its organisational structure and reconnecting with its core voter base , especially ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In a significant development for Punjab’s political landscape, Sukhbir Singh Badal has been unanimously re-elected as the President of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). The announcement was made during a high-level party meeting held in Chandigarh, where senior leaders and workers gathered to reaffirm their support for Badal’s continued leadership.

This marks another term for Sukhbir Singh Badal, who has led the party since 2008, except for a brief interval. Under his stewardship, the SAD has navigated both power and opposition roles in Punjab’s dynamic political environment. His re-election comes at a time when the party is focusing on revitalizing its organisational structure and reconnecting with its core voter base, especially ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing party members after the re-election, Badal called for unity, discipline, and renewed efforts to address the issues affecting Punjab. He stressed the need to strengthen grassroots-level presence and highlighted the SAD’s commitment to the interests of farmers, Sikh religious institutions, and the Punjabi identity.

"We must return to our roots and continue to serve the people of Punjab with dedication and honesty," he said, adding that the SAD will be the voice of those who feel unheard by the current government.

The re-election of Badal also reflects the trust that the party’s core leadership places in him to steer the SAD through challenging political times. In recent years, the party has faced electoral setbacks and criticism over its past governance alliances. However, SAD continues to be a significant player in Punjab’s political space, particularly in rural and Sikh-majority regions.

Senior SAD leaders including Daljit Singh Cheema, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, and Bikram Singh Majithia extended their congratulations, expressing confidence in Badal’s ability to rejuvenate the party. Many lauded his political experience and familiarity with regional as well as national-level issues.

Political analysts see this development as a strategic move aimed at presenting a stable leadership front ahead of the general elections. With Punjab's electorate becoming increasingly vocal on issues like agriculture, employment, drug abuse, and regional autonomy, SAD is expected to refine its campaign narrative under Badal’s leadership.

Sukhbir Singh Badal’s re-election signals continuity in the party’s leadership structure and a renewed push to reclaim its space in Punjab’s political discourse.

"We must return to our roots and continue to serve the people of Punjab with dedication and honesty," he said, adding that the SAD will be the voice of those who feel unheard by the current government.
