Bollywood actor and Member of Parliament Sunny Deol has expressed strong support for Indian farmers, acknowledging their ongoing struggles and praising their unbreakable spirit. Speaking at a recent public interaction, Deol highlighted the challenges farmers face across the country, from poor income and crop failures to policy uncertainties.
Deol, who represents Gurdaspur in Punjab—a region with a large farming population—remarked, “Our farmers have always endured tough times, but they never back down. They’ll face everything with courage, but breaking their spirit? That’s impossible.” His emotional statement quickly gained traction on social media, especially among agricultural communities.
The actor-politician’s comments come at a time when several farmer unions have once again raised concerns over issues such as Minimum Support Prices (MSP), delayed procurement, and crop insurance. Protests and marches in various states have revived the debate over the central government's agricultural policies.
Deol emphasized the need for better communication between farmers and policymakers, urging both sides to seek constructive dialogue. “We must listen to the farmers. They are the backbone of our country. Without them, there’s no food on our plates. Their dignity and livelihood must be protected,” he added.
While Sunny Deol has mostly maintained a low political profile during his tenure, his recent statement is being seen as a rare and heartfelt stand on a sensitive national issue. Political analysts believe his support could resonate strongly with rural voters ahead of upcoming elections.
Deol also addressed the public’s perception of farmers, saying that their image should be one of pride, not pity. “They are warriors of the soil. The government, media, and citizens must treat their voices with the seriousness they deserve.”
