Telangana BJP president has launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of engaging in illegal phone tapping and undermining democratic principles. Speaking to reporters, he claimed that reports and complaints about unauthorised surveillance indicate a deliberate attempt to monitor opposition leaders, journalists, and activists for political advantage.
The BJP leader stated that such actions represent a serious violation of citizens’ right to privacy and can have dangerous implications for freedom of speech. He argued that the misuse of state agencies to conduct surveillance without legal approval reflects a disregard for constitutional safeguards and due process.
He further alleged that the state government is using public resources and official channels for partisan purposes, which erodes public trust in governance. According to him, the seriousness of the charges warrants an independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure impartiality and transparency. He stressed that only a central agency can probe the matter without influence from the state administration.
The controversy emerged after opposition parties claimed that several political figures, journalists, and activists were subjected to illegal phone monitoring. While the state government has denied these allegations, the issue has triggered a heated political debate in Telangana. Civil society groups have also expressed concerns about the possible misuse of surveillance powers and its chilling effect on free expression.
Highlighting the larger implications of the case, the BJP leader said that unauthorised phone tapping not only affects individuals but also undermines democratic governance. He called on all political parties, media organisations, and rights groups to demand accountability from the government. He also warned that if such practices go unchecked, they could set a dangerous precedent for future administrations.
The demand for a CBI probe has found support among some sections of the public and other political parties, who believe that only an independent agency can thoroughly investigate the matter. However, the Congress government has maintained that the allegations are politically motivated and aimed at diverting attention from other issues.
Political analysts suggest that this controversy could influence upcoming elections in Telangana, as privacy, accountability, and governance become prominent campaign topics. The BJP appears determined to use the issue to mobilise public opinion against the Congress-led administration.
In his concluding remarks, the BJP chief reaffirmed his party’s commitment to protecting democratic values and the constitutional rights of citizens. He urged the central government to intervene and ensure that any breach of privacy is dealt with according to the law. The call for a CBI investigation, he added, is essential to restore public confidence and uphold the rule of law in Telangana.
