Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has made a strong statement regarding India’s national security policy, asserting that terror camps across the border in Pakistan were targeted whenever that country crossed red lines. His comments underline the government’s tough stance on terrorism and its readiness to take action when national sovereignty and the safety of citizens are threatened.
Speaking at a public event focused on national security and internal affairs, Rijiju stated that India would not tolerate any breach of its security boundaries, especially when it comes to cross-border terrorism. “Whenever Pakistan has crossed the red lines, our forces have responded with strength and clarity. Terror camps across the border have been targeted to send a clear message that India will not remain passive in the face of provocation,” he said.
The minister did not refer to specific operations but his remarks were seen as a reference to India’s surgical strikes in 2016 and the Balakot air strike in 2019, both of which followed deadly terrorist attacks on Indian soil. These strikes marked a significant shift in India's strategic posture and demonstrated a willingness to take calculated military action across the Line of Control and beyond.
Rijiju, who has held various portfolios including Minister of Law and Justice and now serves in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, emphasized that the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. “There is complete political will to defend the nation and its people. We are prepared to act decisively if provoked,” he added.
The minister also stressed the importance of intelligence coordination, modern technology in border surveillance, and diplomatic efforts to isolate nations that support terrorism. He noted that international sentiment is increasingly turning against countries that harbor or promote extremist activities and that India has built strong alliances in its effort to combat global terrorism.
Rijiju's statement comes at a time when the security situation in the region remains sensitive, with incidents of ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts still being reported along the border. The government has been vocal in raising these concerns in international forums and has sought to strengthen defense capabilities to ensure quick and effective responses.
Experts believe Rijiju’s comments are aimed not only at reaffirming India’s internal security policies but also sending a warning to hostile neighbors that any attempt to destabilize the region will be met with consequences. Analysts also see the statement as a way to reassure the public and bolster the morale of the armed forces.
The government has consistently reiterated its position that peace is desirable, but not at the cost of security or dignity. The broader message remains that India reserves the right to defend itself and will not hesitate to act against threats emerging from across the border.
As tensions in some regions continue to fluctuate, the Indian government is maintaining a firm posture, backed by strategic planning and enhanced operational capabilities. Rijiju’s statement reinforces the message that national security remains a top priority for the administration.
