In a strong assertion of legacy and identity, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray declared that the 'Thackeray' name is not merely a political brand but an inseparable part of Maharashtra’s cultural and political identity. Addressing a gathering of Shiv Sena (UBT) workers and supporters, Uddhav Thackeray said the name evokes deep emotional ties among the people and represents a legacy of service and sacrifice for the state.
His remarks come amid an ongoing political conflict with the Eknath Shinde-led faction over the Shiv Sena’s legacy, symbol, and leadership. Uddhav Thackeray stressed that the significance of the Thackeray name extends far beyond electoral politics. “This is not just about elections. The name Thackeray is not a product created for votes. It is Maharashtra’s identity, shaped by decades of struggle and service by Balasaheb Thackeray,” he said.
He further stated that his father, Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, was never driven by power or position but by a vision to uphold Marathi pride and protect the interests of common people. “Balasaheb stood for principles. He created a movement, not a brand. The trust people have in the Thackeray name is because of the values he lived by,” Uddhav added.
Referring to recent challenges faced by his faction after the split in Shiv Sena, Uddhav said that the public’s support reassures him that the ideals of his father are still alive in the hearts of the people. He emphasized that no amount of political engineering or legal battles can erase the emotional bond between the Thackeray name and Maharashtra.
He also indirectly criticized political opponents, stating that “some may try to claim the legacy, but the people know the truth.” Uddhav Thackeray said the focus should remain on serving the people, rather than fighting over titles and offices. He called upon his party members to continue working with dedication and humility and not be discouraged by temporary setbacks.
Uddhav Thackeray also reiterated his commitment to the issues affecting the state, including inflation, unemployment, and farmers’ distress. He said that his party would continue to raise the voice of the common people and stand against what he called the misuse of political power to suppress dissent.
In his address, he announced plans for further outreach programmes across the state to reconnect with the grassroots and mobilize support ahead of upcoming civic and assembly elections. He urged youth and women to actively participate in politics and carry forward the values of transparency, justice, and public welfare.
The speech concluded with a strong message of unity and resilience, as Uddhav Thackeray vowed to protect the true legacy of Shiv Sena and the dignity associated with the Thackeray name.
