He argued that states that followed responsible governance should not be penalized with fewer seats in Parliament while other regions, where population growth remains high, gain more representation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has taken a significant step in addressing concerns over the upcoming Lok Sabha delimitation process. He has proposed the formation of a Joint Action Committee comprising Members of Parliament (MPs) to collectively discuss and strategize against any potential reduction in Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary representation.

Stalin highlighted concerns that the delimitation process, based on population data, might disproportionately affect southern states like Tamil Nadu, which have successfully implemented population control measures. He argued that states that followed responsible governance should not be penalized with fewer seats in Parliament while other regions, where population growth remains high, gain more representation.

Addressing political leaders and MPs, Stalin urged unity among all parties in Tamil Nadu to resist any unfair delimitation policies. He emphasized that the issue is beyond political differences and requires a united front to safeguard the state’s political influence at the national level.

The proposed Joint Action Committee will analyze the potential impact of delimitation and prepare recommendations to present to the central government. It will also engage in discussions with policymakers and legal experts to ensure a balanced approach to representation in the Lok Sabha.

Political analysts believe that this move by Stalin could strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position in national politics. If implemented successfully, the Joint Action Committee could play a crucial role in influencing the delimitation process and ensuring fair representation for southern states.
