YSRCP leaders further alleged that false First Information Reports (FIRs) were being filed against party workers and that peaceful gatherings or political campaigns were being obstructed under the guise of maintaining law and order.

Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh:

The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has strongly condemned the Andhra Pradesh state government, accusing it of using law enforcement agencies to intimidate and target members of the opposition. In a press conference held on Monday, senior YSRCP leaders alleged that the ruling government is systematically misusing the police force to harass its political opponents and suppress democratic voices.

According to the YSRCP, several of its local leaders and grassroots workers have been subjected to police questioning, arbitrary arrests, and politically motivated legal action. Party spokespersons pointed out that such actions have significantly increased in frequency as the state heads towards upcoming elections. They claimed that the goal of these tactics is to instill fear among opposition ranks and prevent them from engaging with the public.

YSRCP leaders further alleged that false First Information Reports (FIRs) were being filed against party workers and that peaceful gatherings or political campaigns were being obstructed under the guise of maintaining law and order. They argued that this behavior contradicts the principles of a democratic society and violates the constitutional rights of citizens to assemble and express dissent.

"The police are being used as a political tool by the current administration. This is a serious attack on the democratic fabric of the state," said a senior YSRCP member during the press briefing. The party urged the Election Commission of India and the Governor of Andhra Pradesh to take cognizance of the issue and ensure a level playing field for all political parties.

The YSRCP also claimed that the intimidation is not limited to active political members but extends to supporters and community leaders who express views against the government. According to party representatives, some individuals have received warnings or have been detained without proper legal justification.

In response to media questions, the party indicated that it is considering filing a formal complaint with the Election Commission and may seek judicial intervention if the alleged police excesses continue. The YSRCP emphasized that free and fair elections cannot be held under an environment of fear and state-sponsored coercion.

As of now, the Andhra Pradesh government or the state police department has not issued an official statement responding to the allegations. Attempts to reach officials for comment remained unanswered at the time of publication.

Political observers have noted that such allegations are not uncommon in the run-up to elections, where tensions between ruling parties and opposition groups typically escalate. However, they also warn that unchecked misuse of power by any political party could lead to long-term erosion of public trust in democratic institutions.

With election activities intensifying, the spotlight is now on whether state authorities will address these concerns and whether independent bodies will step in to investigate the YSRCP’s claims.

The YSRCP also claimed that the intimidation is not limited to active political members but extends to supporters and community leaders who express views against the government.
