During the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Communist Party of India (CPI) Member of Parliament P Sandosh Kumar raised a strong demand in the Rajya Sabha for a comprehensive discussion on two significant issues: the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the government-led Operation Sindoor. His request underlines the importance the opposition is placing on national security and foreign policy matters during the session.

Pahalgam, located in Jammu and Kashmir, recently witnessed a terror attack that resulted in casualties and injuries. The incident has once again brought the region’s security situation into national focus. Addressing the upper house, P Sandosh Kumar stated that Parliament cannot overlook the growing security threats in sensitive areas and must act as a platform for accountability and response planning. He urged the central government to present a detailed briefing on the incident, the response measures undertaken, and the security arrangements in place for civilians and security personnel in the area.

In addition to the attack, the CPI MP also brought attention to Operation Sindoor — a major humanitarian mission led by the Indian government to evacuate Indian nationals stranded in foreign conflict zones. The operation has received international praise for its efficiency and coordination. However, Kumar pointed out that while public appreciation is due, Parliament must also examine the planning, diplomatic strategy, and financial implications of such large-scale rescue efforts. He said that transparency in these matters strengthens both governance and public trust.

The Monsoon Session, often a period marked by significant legislative activity, has opened with rising expectations from both ruling and opposition parties. With multiple issues on the national and international front, MPs like P Sandosh Kumar are urging the government to prioritize meaningful discussions that go beyond the introduction of bills and routine legislative business.

Speaking to reporters outside the Parliament, Kumar said that national security and citizen welfare should be above politics. He emphasized that all parties, regardless of their ideological stance, have a duty to ensure that incidents like the Pahalgam attack are investigated thoroughly and that rescue operations like Operation Sindoor are scrutinized with care to ensure continued efficiency.

Political analysts note that the inclusion of security and foreign affairs in parliamentary discussions marks a shift from earlier sessions, which were often dominated by economic or administrative concerns. As geopolitical tensions rise and internal security challenges continue, Parliament is expected to serve as a critical forum for debate and policy alignment.

The Rajya Sabha Chair is expected to take a decision on whether to schedule a formal discussion on these topics. If accepted, it would provide the government an opportunity to explain its actions and allow opposition members to raise their concerns in a structured, constitutional environment.

The debate, if held, will be closely followed by media and the public, as it touches on key areas of governance — protection of Indian citizens, domestic security management, and India’s growing role in international crisis response.
