These included delays in approving certain legislative bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and differences over policy matters.

DMK Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament P Wilson has strongly criticised outgoing Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi following his transfer to West Bengal. The comments came after President Droupadi Murmu announced a series of gubernatorial appointments on 5 March, which included the appointment of RN Ravi as the Governor of West Bengal.

Reacting to the development, P Wilson stated that RN Ravi had been a constant reminder of what he described as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s intentions toward Tamil Nadu. Wilson, who is also a senior advocate, alleged that the Constitution tends to become a casualty wherever Ravi serves as Governor.

The remarks reflect the long standing political tensions between the Tamil Nadu government led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the office of the Governor. Over the past few years, several disagreements have emerged between the state government and Governor RN Ravi on legislative and administrative matters.

In his response to the transfer, Wilson made a sarcastic comment saying he was disappointed on two counts. He stated that the DMK would miss RN Ravi as a campaign issue in the upcoming elections. According to him, Ravi’s presence had served as a reminder for voters about the political differences between the state government and the central ruling party.

RN Ravi served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu during a politically sensitive period in the state. During his tenure, several issues created friction between the Governor and the state government. These included delays in approving certain legislative bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly and differences over policy matters.

The DMK leadership had frequently accused the Governor of interfering in the functioning of the elected government. Party leaders have also raised concerns about statements made by the Governor regarding Tamil Nadu’s history, governance and administrative decisions.

Supporters of the Governor, however, have argued that the Governor’s role includes ensuring that constitutional procedures are followed. They maintain that differences between the Governor and state governments are not uncommon in India’s federal political structure.

The recent decision to appoint RN Ravi as the Governor of West Bengal is part of a broader reshuffle of Governors across several states announced by the President of India. Such appointments are made under the constitutional powers vested in the President.

Political observers note that the relationship between Governors and state governments has often been a subject of debate in Indian politics. The role of the Governor as the constitutional head of a state sometimes leads to disagreements when political parties at the state and central levels differ.

Following the announcement of the transfer, reactions from political leaders in Tamil Nadu have reflected the complex relationship that existed between the Governor’s office and the state government during Ravi’s tenure.

As RN Ravi prepares to assume office in West Bengal, discussions continue regarding the role of Governors in India’s federal system and the balance between constitutional authority and elected governments.
