Amid growing speculation about a possible Rajya Sabha nomination, supporters of Nitish Kumar have raised slogans urging him to continue as the Chief Minister of Bihar.

Amid growing speculation about a possible Rajya Sabha nomination, supporters of Nitish Kumar have raised slogans urging him to continue as the Chief Minister of Bihar. The developments come at a time when political discussions in the state are centred on Kumar’s reported plans to move to the Upper House of Parliament.

Workers and members of the Janata Dal United were seen expressing their support for Kumar’s continuation as Chief Minister, stating that the people of Bihar want him to remain in the top executive position in the state. The slogan We only want to see Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister of Bihar was raised by party supporters, reflecting the sentiment among sections of the cadre.

JD(U) leader Sanjay Singh addressed the issue and clarified the party’s position. He said that if Nitish Kumar has made a personal and political decision to contest the Rajya Sabha elections, party members would respect it. However, he added that a large section of the public in Bihar would prefer Kumar to continue serving as Chief Minister. Singh emphasised that Kumar’s leadership has been central to the party’s identity and governance model in the state.

Nitish Kumar has been one of the most prominent political figures in Bihar for nearly two decades. Since first assuming office as Chief Minister in 2005, he has led multiple coalition governments and overseen several development initiatives. His tenure has been associated with efforts to improve infrastructure, strengthen law and order, expand educational access and implement welfare schemes aimed at women and marginalised communities.

The recent speculation about his potential shift to the Rajya Sabha has triggered widespread debate within political circles. A move to Parliament would mark a significant transition in Bihar’s political leadership and could lead to a change in the Chief Minister’s office. The ruling alliance would then need to identify a successor, a process that may influence political equations within the state.

Party insiders suggest that while discussions about Kumar’s future role continue, the leadership remains focused on maintaining unity and stability. Supporters argue that his experience and administrative track record are valuable assets for Bihar, especially at a time when political alignments at both the state and national levels are evolving.

Political analysts note that such moments of transition often generate emotional responses from party cadres and supporters. Public demonstrations of support are not uncommon when senior leaders are perceived to be considering a major shift in their political careers.

As of now, no official announcement has been made regarding the final decision on contesting the Rajya Sabha elections. Until formal confirmation is issued, the matter remains subject to internal party deliberations and political consultation.

The coming days are likely to provide greater clarity on Nitish Kumar’s plans and the future leadership structure in Bihar. For now, the visible support from JD(U) members underscores his continued influence and standing within the party and among sections of the electorate in the state.
