Bharti Airtel has revealed that its AI-powered spam-fighting solution has flagged a staggering 8 billion spam calls and 0.8 billion spam SMSes over the last two and a half months. The telecom giant’s AI system has made significant strides in identifying and mitigating the impact of spam on its customers. According to Airtel, the AI tool identifies nearly one million spammers every day, actively protecting customers from unwanted interruptions.
The data further highlights that Delhi leads the list of regions receiving the highest number of spam calls, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Western Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, the AI tool also observed that 6% of all calls on the Airtel network were identified as spam, while 2% of all SMSes were flagged as such. The system has been particularly effective in alerting nearly 252 million unique customers about these suspicious calls.
Airtel also noted a 12% decline in the number of customers answering spam calls, thanks to its proactive notifications. The analysis revealed that a significant portion of spam activity comes from landline phones, with 3% of all spammers using this method to target users.
In terms of geographical data, Delhi was the city with the highest number of spam calls, followed by Mumbai and Karnataka. For spam SMSes, Gujarat topped the list, followed by Kolkata and Uttar Pradesh. Mumbai, Chennai, and Gujarat saw the highest number of customers being targeted.
The report also examined the patterns of spam activity, revealing that spam calls increase throughout the day, peaking between noon and 3 PM. On Sundays, the number of spam calls drops by 40%, while on weekdays, the calls are more frequent. Notably, devices priced between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 receive 22% of all spam calls, according to Airtel’s data.
Airtel’s AI-driven system uses sophisticated analysis of multiple parameters to identify spam calls in real-time with high accuracy, offering enhanced protection for its customers. The company’s findings emphasize the importance of continuous technological innovation to address the growing problem of spam communication in India.
