Apple is gearing up to introduce a more intelligent and enhanced version of Siri, powered by its AI-based Apple Intelligence suite. According to reports, the new Siri might arrive with the iOS 18.3 update, sooner than initially anticipated. This advanced version of Siri will include tools like writing assistance and web page summarization, which are already slated for the iOS 18.1 update next month.
The Apple Intelligence features, first showcased at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), are expected to be part of this new Siri update. Though some Apple Intelligence features have already appeared in developer and public beta versions, Siri has not yet received these upgrades. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests the wait may soon be over, with iOS 18.3 scheduled for release in early 2025.
Key updates to Siri include improved contextual understanding, allowing it to interpret natural language and even vague commands, thanks to Apple's AI model. Siri will also gain deeper integration with native Apple apps, enabling it to perform tasks within apps based on verbal commands. Along with the new functionality, Siri's interface is receiving a redesign—activating Siri will now cause the screen to glow around the edges, and users will have the option to use the "Type to Siri" feature, which allows for text-based commands.
While some features may be reserved for the iOS 18.4 update, expected in March 2025, iOS 18.3 will mark the beginning of this significant upgrade to Apple’s digital assistant.
