India to Launch Deep Ocean Mission by End of 2025: Minister Jitendra Singh
India is set to launch its ambitious Deep Ocean Mission by the end of 2025, Union Minister for Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh announced. The mission, which aims to explore and harness the potential of oceanic resources, is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s marine research capabilities.
The Deep Ocean Mission is part of India’s long-term strategy to explore oceanic resources such as minerals, deep-sea biodiversity, and other untapped resources that could contribute to the country’s scientific and economic growth. The mission is expected to focus on areas like the sustainable use of ocean resources, marine biodiversity conservation, and advanced technology for ocean exploration.
Jitendra Singh emphasized that the mission would not only strengthen India’s position in global ocean research but also open up new opportunities for innovation and development in sectors like marine biotechnology, energy, and deep-sea mining. He mentioned that India’s oceanic regions hold vast untapped resources that could significantly benefit the country, provided they are explored and utilized sustainably.
The initiative is aligned with India’s broader goals for enhancing scientific research and technological advancements, with a focus on sustainability. The government has already allocated funds and resources to the mission, which will include a wide range of projects, including the development of deep-sea exploration vehicles, marine scientific expeditions, and the study of the ocean's ecosystem.
The launch of the Deep Ocean Mission is expected to boost India’s capabilities in marine technology and offer a comprehensive understanding of the ocean’s potential, furthering global collaborations in marine science.
As India positions itself as a leader in ocean exploration, the Deep Ocean Mission could also provide critical insights into climate change, ocean conservation, and the preservation of marine life in the years ahead.
