A major service disruption affected Bharti Airtel users across India today as reports of internet and mobile network outages surged from multiple regions. The issue began in the early hours of the day with users taking to social media platforms to report difficulties in accessing both mobile data and calling services.
According to real-time monitoring platforms that track internet and telecom disruptions, thousands of complaints were logged within a short span. The outage appeared to be widespread, impacting users in metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, as well as several Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Users reported that their mobile data stopped working suddenly while some also experienced complete signal loss. Others said they were unable to access essential services such as UPI payments, email, or video calls due to the internet outage. Hashtags such as AirtelDown and InternetOutage trended on X formerly known as Twitter where customers demanded a prompt resolution from the telecom operator.
In response to the growing concerns, Airtel issued a brief statement on its social media handles acknowledging the service disruption. The company stated that their technical teams were actively investigating the root cause of the issue and working to restore connectivity as quickly as possible. Airtel apologized for the inconvenience and assured subscribers that normal services would resume soon.
While the exact reason for the outage was not officially confirmed, experts speculate that it could be due to a technical glitch in the network's backend systems or a possible issue with DNS servers. Some reports also indicated that the problem may have stemmed from scheduled maintenance work or a sudden spike in network traffic.
Airtel is one of India’s largest telecom service providers with millions of subscribers across the country. Such widespread outages can have significant implications for both personal and professional communication, especially in a digital-first economy. Small businesses and remote workers were among those particularly affected by the interruption, with many unable to connect to cloud services or hold virtual meetings.
This is not the first time a telecom giant has faced nationwide service issues. In the past, similar outages have occurred across networks, raising concerns over telecom infrastructure resilience in India. Regulatory bodies such as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India TRAI are expected to review the incident and may seek detailed reports from the company regarding the cause and steps taken to mitigate such issues in the future.
In the meantime, Airtel customers are advised to restart their devices and check for signal restoration. Users may also switch to Wi-Fi or alternative networks if available, until the mobile network services are fully restored. Airtel has promised to keep users informed about progress and service recovery timelines.
