Vivo has launched its latest premium foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold6, in India with a starting price of Rs 2,19,999. The company has positioned the device as a flagship foldable focused on productivity, multitasking, photography and high-end performance.

The Vivo X Fold6 is available in a single memory configuration with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The smartphone is offered in two colour options, Nebula Teal and Prism Black. Pre-bookings have opened in India, while the first sale is scheduled to begin on October 13, 2026, through Vivo's online store, Flipkart, Amazon and partner retail outlets.

The X Fold6 follows a book-style foldable design. It features an 8.02-inch inner display that becomes available when the phone is unfolded and a 6.51-inch cover display for regular smartphone use when the device is closed. Both displays use AMOLED technology and support adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Vivo says the displays are designed to provide a large workspace for productivity, entertainment and multitasking.

The inner display is one of the major highlights of the device. Vivo has developed software features that allow users to work with multiple applications at the same time. Its Origin Workbench is designed to turn the larger foldable screen into a productivity-oriented workspace. Users can manage multiple applications and move information between compatible apps using features such as AI Cross-App Drag.

The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition chipset. Vivo says the processor has been developed and optimised in collaboration with MediaTek for the foldable form factor. The device also uses LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, according to current specifications reported for the Indian model.

The software experience is another important part of the Vivo X Fold6. The phone runs OriginOS 7 based on Android 17. Vivo has included several artificial intelligence features aimed at improving productivity, document management, meetings and reading. The larger inner screen is designed to make these functions more practical when users need to work across several applications.

Photography is another major focus of the X Fold6. The smartphone features a 200MP ZEISS main camera with optical image stabilisation. It is accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP telephoto camera with optical image stabilisation. Vivo has also included ZEISS imaging technology and a ZEISS APO telephoto camera as part of the device's flagship camera system.

For selfies and video calls, the smartphone has 20MP cameras on both the cover and inner displays. The camera system is designed to provide users with multiple shooting options while taking advantage of the foldable design.

Battery capacity is another area where Vivo has made a significant upgrade. The X Fold6 comes with a 6,900mAh battery, which Vivo describes as the largest battery in India's foldable smartphone category. The phone supports 80W wired FlashCharge and 40W wireless charging. The larger battery is aimed at supporting the phone's large displays, powerful processor and multitasking capabilities.

The smartphone also includes several durability and connectivity features. Vivo says the device has IPX8 and IPX9 water resistance along with IP5X dust protection and freeze resistance. The company has also included a communication chipset designed to optimise cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity in different environments.

In terms of design, the X Fold6 measures about 9.4mm in thickness when folded and weighs approximately 228 grams. Its foldable form factor provides users with a conventional smartphone experience through the cover display while offering a much larger screen when opened.

The Vivo X Fold6 arrives in India at a time when the premium foldable smartphone segment is becoming increasingly competitive. Apple has also entered the foldable smartphone market with the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone. Apple says the iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Pre-orders for Apple's device are scheduled to begin on October 16, with availability from October 23.

Because both devices target premium users looking for foldable smartphones, the X Fold6 is likely to attract attention from consumers comparing high-end foldable options. However, the two devices use different operating systems and hardware platforms, so buyers will need to consider factors such as display design, camera capabilities, battery capacity, software ecosystem and price before making a decision.

At Rs 2,19,999, the Vivo X Fold6 is positioned firmly in India's ultra-premium smartphone segment. Vivo is also offering launch benefits for eligible customers, including cashback of up to Rs 26,400, exchange benefits and financing options. The company has announced a 30-month no-cost EMI option with zero down payment through eligible channels.

The Vivo X Fold6 therefore combines a large foldable display, flagship processing hardware, a high-resolution camera system and a large battery in a single premium device. Its focus on multitasking is particularly aimed at users who want a smartphone that can also function as a compact productivity device.

With sales beginning on October 13, the response from Indian consumers will determine how strongly the X Fold6 performs in the country's increasingly competitive foldable smartphone market. The combination of its Rs 2,19,999 price, 200MP ZEISS camera, Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor, 6,900mAh battery and large dual-display setup makes it one of Vivo's most ambitious foldable launches in India.

However, the two devices use different operating systems and hardware platforms, so buyers will need to consider factors such as display design, camera capabilities, battery capacity, software ecosystem and price before making a decision.
