The Government of India has been actively encouraging the expansion of 5G across the country to support its vision of a digitally connected economy.

Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), one of India’s prominent telecom service providers, has commenced the rollout of its 5G services in the Delhi-NCR region. This strategic launch is part of the company's broader plan to expand 5G services across all 17 telecom circles by August 2025, marking a significant step in its digital transformation journey.

The introduction of 5G services in Delhi-NCR follows extensive network testing and infrastructure development. The company has partnered with major global vendors to ensure the smooth deployment of 5G technology, ensuring high-speed data transfer, lower latency, and enhanced network reliability for its customers.

According to a statement from Vodafone Idea, the 5G rollout in Delhi-NCR covers key areas such as Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. The company is initially focusing on high-density regions, commercial hubs, and high-demand zones before expanding into suburban and rural markets.

Vodafone Idea’s 5G launch comes at a time when competition in the telecom sector has intensified, with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel already offering 5G services in several cities across India. However, Vi is banking on a carefully phased approach that prioritizes quality of service and network stability over rapid but uneven expansion.

In its roadmap, the company confirmed that the next phase will include other major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata, followed by tier-2 and tier-3 cities. Vi also announced that by August 2025, it aims to make its 5G services available across all licensed circles, covering both urban and rural regions.

The 5G services are being launched on a non-standalone architecture, initially riding on the existing 4G infrastructure. However, the company plans to transition to standalone 5G gradually, to enable advanced use cases in sectors such as education, healthcare, smart cities, and industrial automation.

Industry experts view this launch as a crucial step for Vodafone Idea, especially as it works toward financial recovery and network modernization. The 5G rollout is also expected to play a vital role in enhancing customer experience and increasing average revenue per user (ARPU), which has been a key challenge for the company in recent years.

Vodafone Idea is offering its 5G services to existing customers at no additional cost during the initial phase, in a bid to encourage adoption and provide seamless upgrades. Post the trial period, the company is expected to announce competitive tariff plans in line with market standards.

The Government of India has been actively encouraging the expansion of 5G across the country to support its vision of a digitally connected economy. With Vi now stepping up its game, the Indian telecom sector is poised for accelerated digital growth, benefiting consumers and businesses alike.

As the rollout continues, Vodafone Idea is expected to provide updates on coverage, device compatibility, and service plans to keep users informed and engaged.
