According to official sources within the airline, the cancellations are temporary and were necessitated by a combination of factors, including air traffic restrictions, ongoing maintenance work, and region-specific limitations.

New Delhi:

Air India, the national carrier, has announced the cancellation of flight operations at eight airports across India for May 13. The airline has cited operational and logistical reasons for the disruption and has issued an advisory to affected passengers, urging them to check flight status and explore rescheduling or refund options.

According to official sources within the airline, the cancellations are temporary and were necessitated by a combination of factors, including air traffic restrictions, ongoing maintenance work, and region-specific limitations. While the airline has not disclosed all locations publicly, major cities are reported to be affected, and passengers traveling to and from those destinations have been notified via SMS and email.

“Due to unavoidable operational constraints, Air India will not operate scheduled flights at eight specific airports on May 13. We regret the inconvenience caused to our valued passengers and are committed to providing alternate arrangements or full refunds as per standard policies,” the airline said in a statement.

Passengers with bookings for the affected routes have been advised to visit the Air India website or contact customer service for updated information. The airline is also facilitating free rescheduling for impacted travellers, allowing them to rebook their flights within a specified window without incurring additional charges.

Travel industry experts have noted that such decisions, while inconvenient, are sometimes necessary to ensure safety and operational efficiency, especially when influenced by external factors such as airport infrastructure issues, regulatory advisories, or weather-related concerns.

In its public advisory, Air India has also urged passengers to arrive early at airports, especially if they are booked on alternative flights on the same day. The airline has requested cooperation and patience during the process and assured that its ground staff would be available at affected locations to assist travellers.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed of the flight cancellations, and the airline has confirmed that all procedures are being followed in compliance with civil aviation norms. So far, no indication has been given that the cancellations will extend beyond May 13.

Travelers are advised to:

Check the flight status before heading to the airport.

Use the airline’s mobile app or website for real-time updates.

Contact Air India’s customer service for rebooking or refund assistance.

Cooperate with airport and airline personnel for smoother coordination.

This development comes amid a broader focus on improving punctuality and service reliability across the aviation sector in India. Air India has also been undergoing a significant operational overhaul since its takeover by the Tata Group, with increased emphasis on streamlining operations and customer service delivery.

While the cancellations are expected to cause temporary inconvenience to passengers, the airline has reiterated its commitment to restoring normal services promptly and ensuring passenger satisfaction.
