New Delhi, India: In a bid to enhance its defense capabilities, the Indian Army is accelerating efforts to induct indigenous Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers into its arsenal. As part of this initiative, the Army is set to finalize a deal worth Rs 10,200 crore within this fiscal year, marking a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in defense production.
The Pinaka rocket system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has proven its effectiveness in providing long-range artillery support. The Army’s push for these domestically manufactured rockets aligns with India’s broader goal of reducing dependence on foreign defense suppliers and boosting the country’s indigenous defense manufacturing sector.
Sources indicate that the Rs 10,200 crore deal will involve the supply of advanced Pinaka rockets and related infrastructure. This includes the purchase of launchers, ammunition, and systems designed to enhance the operational efficiency of the Army’s artillery divisions. The deal is expected to significantly bolster India’s defense readiness, particularly in regions where long-range artillery support is critical.
India has been focusing on indigenization to make its defense forces self-reliant, a priority emphasized by the government’s "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative. The successful induction of the Pinaka rocket system will be a major achievement for the defense sector and a key milestone in India's journey towards self-sufficiency in military technology.
The Pinaka system has already been successfully deployed by the Indian Army and has shown its capability to strike targets with precision over long distances. With this new deal, the Indian Army aims to further enhance its artillery capabilities and strengthen its defense infrastructure.
Experts believe that the shift towards indigenous production will not only strengthen the Army’s operational capabilities but also create opportunities for domestic defense manufacturers and boost the overall economy. As the deal moves toward completion, India’s defense sector is poised for a significant transformation, fostering innovation and self-reliance in the long term.
