Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently highlighted the growing issue of vulgar content on social media platforms, stating that the problem has arisen due to the lack of editorial checks. Vaishnaw pointed out that with the decline of traditional editorial oversight on digital platforms, unfiltered content has become prevalent, causing harm to online discourse and social well-being.

Speaking on the matter, Vaishnaw emphasized that the government is actively working on updating and implementing more stringent social media regulation laws to combat the spread of inappropriate and harmful content. These new regulations are designed to hold platforms accountable for the content they host, ensuring better compliance with legal and ethical standards.

The IT Minister underscored the importance of a balanced approach, which protects freedom of expression while preventing the dissemination of harmful or misleading content. The new laws are also expected to enforce stricter reporting and removal of content that violates community guidelines, helping to create a safer online environment for users.

The government's move to address these concerns comes as social media platforms face increasing scrutiny over their role in spreading misinformation, hate speech, and offensive material. With the introduction of more comprehensive regulation, the government aims to foster responsible digital content creation and better accountability from platform operators.
